The Annual Dorset Horn and Poll Dorset Association sale held at Borderway Mart
Carlisle took place 28th August saw all vendors well rewarded.
Judge for the day was society president Mr James Royan who found his Male and overall
champion with the first shearling offered for sale from the Clydesdale flock of Halbeath
Farm, Clydsdale. Highly Flammable a powerful son of Stobilee Firestarter topped the
sale at 1300gns and headed back over the border to Scotland and its new home with D.J
Rankine for their Dun Eideann Flock. The Clydesdale Flock next shearling in the ring
Clydesdale High Voltage sold well at 1000gns and was off to his new home with J
Proctor of Kendle.
Moving onto the Ram Lambs these were led by two strong Ram Lambs from the Rankine
family first in the ring was the days Reserve Male Champion Dun Eideann Invincible a
son of Ballytaggart Hummer stood Reserve Champion Dorset at the Scottish National
show and caught the eye of G L Riby selling at 1000gns, another Ballytaggart Hummer
son followed this one Dun Eideann Iconic, the reserve champion at Berwickshire show
earlier in the season was the choice of T V Robinson and surpassed his pen mate
making 1200gns.
Two further Ram Lambs sold for 800gns firstly for the Rossiter family, Huish Inherit this
son of Huish Fanfare previously stood Reserve Male Champion at the National show
and now heads north and joins the Clydesdale Flock of Halbeath Farm. Next up
Sandylane Ironman from S.Driver a son of Sandylane Faithless heads to G Alyn of
Holywell.
Shearling females were in great demand, the Redhill Trophy for the champion female
was won by Sam driver for Sandy Lane H9142 this is the 5th consecutive time Sam has
won the award, The strong daughter of Ballytaggart Echo was one of four ewes selling at
800 gns, she was joined at the same money by pen mate Sandy Lane H9247 this one a
daughter of Ballymaconnelly Fury with both headed away with G.A Fort to west
Yorkshire. Third at 800gns Sandy Lane H9377 only a April born shearling ewe she
headed away with R.Lea of Harrogate who saw the potential in this young daughter of
Southbank Gussage. The Rossiters sold their best shearling at 800 gns for Huish
H27039 a daughter of Huish Echo heads away again to G.A.Fort, closely followed by pen
mate Huish H27232 at 750gns to C Driver Dumfries.
Ewe lambs topped at 450gns for Huish I 28869 the Huish echo daughter head back to
devon and joins M Pearse. Pens of ewe lambs sold well and were topped by a lovely trio
of lambs from C Johnston and her Bamburgh flock selling to G.Alyn at 400gns.
